Dinner Service: Diners at Lynch’s Restaurant in Stony Point helped raise more than $1,050 for United Hospice of Rockland’s (UHR) North Rockland Chapter of Youth for Hospice (YFH) on February 211. Fifteen percent of dinners were donated to United Hospice of Rockland in memory of lifelong North Rockland native, Carol A. Pileggi.

The Right Note: Rockland County Music Teachers’ Guild’s annual Music Marathon was held on December 7 and 8 at Palisades Mall.  More than 200 student musicians entertained holiday shoppers in the atrium. The donations to Helping Hands totaled almost $10,000, which will be used to provide shelter for the homeless in Rockland throughout the winter months.

That’s The Spirit: On December 12,  Jeff Zacharia and Don Zacharia, who are President and CEO of Zachary Wine and Liquor in Scardsale, presented checks totaling $46,000 to two charities, Navigating the Spectrum and The Hemophilia Association of NY. The funds were raised through the Scarsdale Police Benevolent Association’s October golf outing at Quaker Ridge Golf Club.

Get Your Kicks:  The world-famous Rockettes paid a holiday visit to Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley on December 5. The event was held at at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, the temporary home-away-from-home that keeps families close to their children when they are hospitalized due to serious illness or traumatic injury.

To Your Health: More than 100 guests were in attendance as Rye resident Irwin R. Merkatz, M.D.was honored by UJA-Federation of New York’s Montefiore Medical Center & Albert Einstein College of Medicine Division at a November 19 reception. Merkatz has been the Chella and Moise Safra professor and university chair in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Women’s Health at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center since 1981.

On November 18, she was presented with the Brigitte Simon Service Award at the “The Art of Excellence” celebration, which was held at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York.

Dynamic Duo: Dr. Edward and Raselle Fisher were honored for their dedication and support at United Hospice of Rockland’s 25th Anniversary Gala, “Dancing With Our Stars,” which was held Sunday, October 14 at the Colonial Inn in Norwood, New Jersey. The event raised more than $158,000.

On The Waterfront: The Mental Health Association of Westchester raised $120,000 at its annual benefit, Autumn On The Hudson on October 24th at X2O, Xavier’s on the Hudson in Yonkers. The evening honored MHA honored Georganne Chapin, President and CEO and Hudson Health Plan; Mary Beth Morrissey, MHA Board Member and President of Collaborative for Palliative Care; John B. Allen, Special Assistant to the Commissioner, NYS Office of Mental Health and Kathie Collins, MHA Volunteer, Court Appointed Special Advocates.
 Honoreees Collins, Morrissey, Allen and Chapin with MHA CEO, Dr. Amy Kohn.
